“Remnants” is a two-person art show opening this Saturday, July 2, from 2 pm to 4 pm (with a gallery talk at 3 pm) and closing Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Albuquerque Open Space Visitor Center Gallery.

The theme “Remnants,” chosen by the two artists, encompasses the remains, fragments, and vestiges of found objects that speak of life’s mysteries. The artists collect, save, photograph, and sketch these objects that connect past, present, and future. Their combined art invites contemplation of nature’s elegant leftovers—rearranged and given a new life.

BAG member Margy O’Brien will be showing books of rolled scroll, threaded accordion, altered, popup, fold-up pojagi, and codex forms. Her work also includes two-dimensional mixed-media art. Her artist’s books have been included in past Santa Fe BAG Rotunda shows and included in the books 1000 Artists’ Books (Quarry Books) and 500 Handmade Books, Volume 2 (Lark Publishing).

Carolyn Berry will be exhibiting boxed assemblages featuring suspended gourds and found objects—from fragments of bones to seed pods embedded in encaustic wax. These unique shrines are dedicated to the beauty and treachery of nature all around us. Carolyn’s artwork is featured in the Spring 2021 issue of Encaustic Arts Magazine.
