This fast-paced workshop will get you jazzed up for starting, restarting, and maintaining a sketchbook. Pull out any book (a blank book, one with a few pages your started years ago, or even an old printed book that has no readers today), grab your supplies, and Lee will walk you through several exercises to get you going and keep you going.

Lee will talk about paper quality, desired outcome, daily practice, why anyone should keep an artist’s journal or a sketchbook, keeping and displaying sketchbooks, and sharing your work.

Materials Required

  • Water-soluble media: watercolors, gouache, water-based crayons and water-based markers in assorted colors
  • Sparkling watercolors, if you have them
  • Paint brushes
  • Water container
  • Rags
  • Painter’s washi tape (purple) or Frog tape or blue painter’s tape
  • The book you are going to work in
  • POSCA or similar acrylic markers
  • Binder clips are helpful if your book doesn’t stay open

Lee Kellogg has been teaching art and creativity for over two decades. Lee was the owner of Guadalupe’s Fun Rubber Stamps in Santa Fe, which closed in 2020. She now resides in Bend, Oregon, on the east side of the Cascade Range.

Nature and travel inspire her art. Flora and fauna making up nature journaling, while urban and pastoral landscapes fill her travel journals. Happy to work in a variety of mediums, Lee tends to favor watercolor with pen-and-ink drawings.

Lee currently teaches for the Deschutes Public Library, through private classes, and online. She has taught classes for the Santa Fe Public Schools, the Palace of the Governors, and the Craft and Hobby Association.
